Installing Inspectlet with Google Tag Manager

Inspectlet fully supports installation via Google Tag Manager. You can use our one-click integration to install automatically, or add the tracking code manually as a Custom HTML tag.

One-Click Integration (Recommended)

The fastest way to install Inspectlet through GTM is with our built-in one-click integration. It creates the tag, sets it to fire on all pages, and publishes it for you automatically.

  1. Log into your Inspectlet Dashboard
  2. Go to your site's Install Tracking Code page
  3. Click Install with Google Tag Manager
  4. Sign in with the Google account that has access to your GTM containers
  5. Select the GTM container for your website from the list
  6. Inspectlet will create the tracking tag and publish it — it's live immediately

The tag fires on all pages for all visitors with no additional configuration needed. If you ever need to reinstall or update the tag, just run the process again — it will replace the previous tag automatically without creating duplicates.

Note: You may see a Google warning that says "Google hasn't verified this app" during sign-in. This integration is new and we're pending verification from Google. It's safe to proceed — click Advanced, then Go to Inspectlet to continue. We only use access to create the Inspectlet tag in your container.

Classic Manual Installation

If you prefer to set up the tag yourself, you can add the Inspectlet tracking code manually in Google Tag Manager:

  1. Log into Google Tag Manager
  2. Select the container for your website
  3. Go to Tags > New
  4. Click Tag Configuration and choose Custom HTML
  5. Get your Inspectlet tracking code from the Inspectlet Dashboard (click Install Tracking Code on your site) and paste it into the HTML field
  6. Click Triggering and select All Pages so the tag fires on every page
  7. Name the tag (e.g. "Inspectlet Session Replay") and click Save
  8. Click Submit in the top right to publish your changes, then click Publish

Your Inspectlet tracking code is now live on every page where this GTM container is installed.

Check if it's installed correctly

To verify that Inspectlet is installed and working, append ?inspectlet_diagnostics=true to any page URL on your site to bring up the diagnostics console.
